Iran questions South Korean gov't about anti-Iran remarks by President Yoon

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian embassy in Seoul said on Wednesday that it has contacted South Korean government asking for explanations about President Yoon Suk Yeol’s recent anti-Iran remarks.

Addressing the UAE-based South Korean soldiers, President Yoon had reportedly made baseless interventionist remarks where he resembled UAE’s relations with Iran as that of South Korea with North Korea, claiming that Iran is an enemy for the Persian Gulf Arab country.

The Iranian embassy in Seoul said in a statement on Wednesday that the embassy has had contacts with the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It said that such diplomatic relations will continue in the future.

The statement comes as the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced it had called for explanations of Seoul about the interventionist remarks of its president and is waiting for a response.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry issued a statement insisting that the remarks by President Yoon are unrelated to the country’s relations with Iran.

Noting that the remarks of the South Korean president has not to be misinterpreted, the statement said that these remarks were merely seeking to excite and encourage the South Korean soldiers.
